Fall has finally made itโ€™s way to the south and cooler weather is settling in. I dread the cold, darker days if winter because I am not a winter person, but it does mean one thing for me. Spring isnโ€™t that far away โ€“ it is only a few short months โ€™til then and I have decided to spend those cold, dreary days of winter working on the Family Travel Host USA and the upcoming (print) tabloid debuting in Spring 2024. This will keep me busy and I wonโ€™t waste my time worrying about the cold weather thatโ€™s right around the corner!

Trick-or-treaters will show up at my door at the end of October and candy wrappers scattered on the porch and in the yard โ€“ a sure sign that cooler weather doesnโ€™t affect kids as it does the older folk. Then, itโ€™s time to prepare for the Thanksgiving holidays and family will come and go and the smell of delicious pumpkin pies makes the house warm and welcoming to visitors young and old. November is my favorite month in spite of the cold weather thatโ€™s lurking around the corner. Christmastime is okay especially when the grand children come to visit. When January arrives, along with it freezing temperatures and cold, gloomy days that seem to last longer than most, I try to concentrate on work and travel plans for the summer.

I love getting outside and tending to my flower beds but sometimes, Mr. Winter has other plans. The temperature drops and everything freezes over until sometimes in February. But the sun comes out even on cold days and brightens my gloomy days and makes me realize just how much I really enjoy this time of year. Cold, yes, but a welcoming change after a long hot summer that seemed to go on forever just a few months before. The grass that once was green and lush was now dead from months of three digit temperatures every day. I was so worried about the colder weather that was to come that I hardly noticed the dead grass everything.

Sometimes in the latter part of February, trees start budding out here and there and winter flowers start blooming with a promise of springtime not far away. Grass starts turning green again especially where the sun shines on it the most. No scorching heat here, just enough warmth from the sun to bring it back to life. And here I was, this whole time, worrying about wintertime. It will soon pass and springtime will come, bringing with it new life. The animals are happy, the earth is happy โ€“ everything is coming alive again and you know what, Iโ€™m right there with it โ€“ I feel the freshness of new life all around me and it makes me happy. The beauty of Springtime is too much for words. Of course, I donโ€™t suffer from allergies so I see it in a different light.

Now that weโ€™ve gotten through how winter and spring makes me feel, itโ€™s time to work on the Family Travel Host tabloid. Weโ€™ve got exciting times ahead!

We need destination travel stories โ€“ up to 1000 words. And we need pictures. Our annual travel guide is set to be printed late February so you have plenty of time to write your stories and get them to us. We want to hear about your travels โ€“ where you went, who all was with you, and how your family reacted. Did they enjoy the trip? What could you do the next time to make your trip easier especially for the children? Did you stay at a motel, resort, a cabin, or did you camp out? We want to hear about your trip. An donโ€™t forget โ€“ we love photos and lots of them!

Okay, thatโ€™s it for now โ€“ Iโ€™ve been through four seasons in a few paragraphs and now it is time for a trip โ€“ send us your stories and take us away with you. Email us at marcies1960@aol.com.

Have you made plans for your summer vacation 2024 yet? I want to take a few minutes to tell you about my 2 favorite places to stay in Lake City, Colorado. If youโ€™ve never been to Lake City, Co., I could go on and on telling you how much I love to go there ever summer but would you really listen? Youโ€™ll just have to travel there and see for yourself what Iโ€™ve been talking about and why I keep going back year after year.

But I do have 2 recommendations for you that you can check out. My first is The Texan Resort and my second is G & M Cabins, both located in Lake City, Co. Stay a few nights at each place and let us know what you think!

Visiting them online is wonderful but actually staying there in person is another matter. You just have to go there yourself. When you do, weโ€™d love to hear about your experience. Send your comments/review to The Family Travel Host at marcies1960@aol.com.
